How to set up a blog; Social Media Brand Review

The Story

When I started Social Media Brand Review, it was an experiment to see whether there I can build and position a blog about digital brand management within a certain time. I was keen on brand management but there wasn’t many research about digital brand management. So I wanted to understand which are the most influential social media networks for brand building, what are the relevant key performance indicators and which brands were already setting the benchmark. I have taken on all the buzz words and spoke for ten weeks about nothing else then: publishing, scheduling, reach, engagement, automations, monitoring and so on…

In addition, I had no clue how to set up a website and write in order to reach a good SEO. I needed to teach myself everything from scratch on. But it was totally worth it: I got to know so many great common minds and even managed to transform my private passion into business activities.

Lessons Learned

Reach is a false friend: when I first tried facebook ad manager, I was targetting people from the BRIC states as I knew from my research that people tended to use social media more frequently. After 2 days and 5€ spent budget, I had more than 3000 follower, mostly from India. I was really happy and thought, well that was easy. Later I realised that my follower couldn’t understand a single word I wrote, as I did write in German…
